Bow & Chariot Fantasy Writing Challenge
This is Bow & Chariot’s third official challenge. Now we step through the mystic portal.
Can you weave the veil between us and the unseen?
Can you write a short story in 3,000 words or under that immerses us in myth and magic? Whether your story starts in a kingdom of the dead, a forest filled with enchantments, with a horror demon twisting the minds of our heroes, or mana flowing through the cracks of an Earth colony spaceship—if it’s fantasy, we want to read it.
Oh, and it has to include our special theme/phrase and word.
Pre-registration opens on April 13th, 2026 and runs until May 10th at 11:59 PM CST.
The challenge officially begins on May 11th at 10:00 AM CST, when all pre-registered participants will be emailed the official rules and prompts (our special theme/phrase and word).
From that moment, writers will have two full weeks—until May 25th at 11:59 PM CST to submit their completed story.
Winners will be announced on June 25th.
